A Letter of No Objection to Using Company Name is a written document that is sent by a company to grant permission and consent for another company to incorporate using a name that is very similar. The letter is sent to the Companies Registration of Office. It is also referred to as an LNO.
A Letter of No Objection to Using Company Name is needed when an incorporating company is seeking to use a word or phrase that has already been used by another incorporated company. The company seeking to incorporate using the word or phrase must obtain a letter from the incorporated company that states that the incorporated company does not object to the use of the words and/or phrases by the company seeking to incorporate. The letter serves as proof that the incorporated company is aware of the similarity and grants consent for the incorporating company to use the words in controversy.
Although the use of emails has reduced the time frame for the processing of the no objection letters; the no objection letter requirement still slows down the incorporating process because the incorporating company still has to wait for the receipt of the letter of no objection before the incorporation process can proceed.
